Profile In March 2000 the L'Aquila Film Institute "La Lanterna Magica" began creating a collection of films and it is one of the few national centres which collects and preserves films. Therefore, the Institute has set up various sectors in order to continue its mandate to promote film and audiovisual related cultural events. The collection in the film library itself is a concrete example of the Institute's commitment to preserving this art form. The philosophy behind the film library is to restore, preserve, and screen film material which can be employed for the purpose of viewing and understanding film and creating a discerning and creative film audience. The Institute's prestigious collection includes over 1,500 35mm and 16mm films. The aim is to ensure that the films are housed in an appropriate place for a collection that requires special care in order to preserve the film stock. This should allow cineastes and people conducting research to have direct contact with the original films. The material at the L'Aquila Film Library is available to organisations, institutions and associations who wish to view the original films and engage in film appreciation. |
