Preservation The L’Aquila Film Library is one of the few organisations dedicated to the preservation of film in central and southern Italy. It has become important for other organisations and institutions involved in research and film appreciation. The L’Aquila Film Library has distinguished itself as a place that has developed skills pertaining specifically to film preservation on a national and international level. The offices, laboratories, archives and storage areas and the buildings which currently house the film collection are now situated in a newly restored building complex in L’Aquila (formerly the psychiatric hospital). The Film Library is located in the building formerly used by the university faculty of medicine with ample office and storage space. The films are kept in air conditioned rooms to ensure optimum conditions for preservation. Creating centres which are specialised in protecting films according to correct procedures is undoubtedly of the highest priority for the L’Aquila Film Library. This is especially important for private collections in Italy and abroad that are not currently stored in the correct manner. The library plans to continue concerning itself primarily with this work in order to avoid the loss of our audiovisual history. |
