Nestor Almendros Award The Nestor Almendros prize for young or emerging directors of photography is an important recognition given to a DOP who has demonstrated original use of light in film. It is awarded by the L'Aquila Film Institute in conjunction with the A.I.C. (Italian Association of Directors of Photography). Gabiele Lucci and Luciano Tovoli created the award in memory of the director of photography Nestor Almendros (Days of Heaven, Kramer vs Kramer, Finalmente domenica, L'ultimo metro). He was a close friend and an honorary member of the Institute. Over the years the winners have proved to be outstanding directors of photography which has earned international prestige for the award. The award ceremony traditionally takes place in December, during the final days of the L'Aquila Film Festival, and is presided over by important members of the local authorities as well as important members of the entertainment industry. |
